RE: Rv Direct Cash up Front ?

I didn't buy from RV Direct but did buy in IN, the dealer gave me a 30 day transit permit and we went to KY for the winter.
I've purchased many vehicles outside my home state and always received a temp tag for transit. RVD could do this also. In one instance I had to provide a check in advance but it was made out to the dealer AND me.

RE: Question about tire air pressure.

What rims do you have? Can they handle 100psi? How about the valve stems? Are they metal?

RE: Algae bio-diesel

But lets not get our hopes up that all this new drilling or bio fuels will lower prices dramatically. Much of the petroleum reserves are not economically recoverable at a low $/barrel. Likewise the investment required for bio fuel isn't profitable at low prices. Ethanol, as it's now produced, is subsidized by the government or it wouldn't be profitable. And where does that subsidy come from? Taxes. You pay one way or another. Increased production here could reduce the price swings caused by events not under our control but wouldn't eliminate them entirely.

RE: Awning Cleaning

I use awning cleaner brush it on, roll up awning for 20-30minutes then wash. Rolling it up makes the job much easier.

RE: Pulling the big fifth wheel

My 450 with 4.30 rear has averaged 8.7 ( high 9.0/low 8.2) over 8700 miles cruising at 2000rpm. When you get in the mountains with temps at 90 or above don't get excited when the fan kicks in -- it's somewhat noisy.

RE: How often do you check lug nut tightness?

When I stopped to ask if I could help he told me his lug nuts sheared off.
Sheared lug nuts usually indicate stretched bolts -- torqued too much.

RE: who tows with a 2008 ford FX4 with the high box sidewalls

I don't think the Super Dutys (250,350, 450) have changed the side wall depth. I believe that is limited to the 150's. I had an 05 Super Duty and don't see any difference in my 08.

RE: fifth airborne or mor ryde

I have a MorRyde and you can see an oval outline in the dust that accumulates on the mechanism that would indicate a combo fore/aft/sideways movement.

RE: Oh My Aching Head!!!!

16" Tires -- Most definitely
15000 BTU AC -- Definitely. If 50 amp not standard get it also. If not opting for a 2nd A/C at least get the wiring.
10 Gallon Water Heater -- definitely -- gas/electric.
Exterior Grill Dunno.
Exterior Shower -- Good for kids/grandkids tow wash feet or rinse saltwater from body. A splitter on the water hookup also works unless they require hot water.
Awnings for Slideouts -- People either love or hate them. Most complaints are for flapping in the wind at night making sleep difficult and sagging when it rains.
Manual vs Automatic Awnings -- Those who have them love them for the ease in pushing the button if the wind comes up at night. A downer is some models do not have the capability to lower one end when extended to allow for rain runoff. If you're new to RVing that's one thing you want to be able to do. A rain load is known to bend awning hardware, an expensive happening.

RE: air ride hitches & king pin box

I have the Air Safe air hitch in combination with a MorRyde pin box. There is a considerable difference in the trailer and tow vehicle ride over the standard hitch. If I was a weekender I would probably settle for a 5th Airborne or like pin box.

RE: What brands of tires to look at for new fiver?

I did a check on that long Excapees post back in January-- 20 pages, 286 posts then( I may have missed a couple), 9 individual posters had problems with the G614s, some multiple, 5 did not have problems. So while it appears as a long post on the problems with G614s there were not that many individuals reporting problems. Some of the posts were reporting problems on 15 and 16 inch E rated tires. The rest of the posts discussed the problems that could cause blowouts and tread separation, the benefits of different brands, etc. There was even a poster who had problems with a 17.5. I don't deny that there have been problems with the G614s but I would consider replacing mine with another set when it comes time. I have the G614s with a build date of early 05 (don't remember exact date) on my Cameo with over 35,000 miles and haven't had any problems. In fact I had a nail in one of mine that didn't penetrate the steel tread -- it was bent over. To be safe that tire is now my spare. And yes -- I was bored that day.

RE: Tire ?

I had 42,000 on my F250, 0ver 27,000 pulling a fiver at max GVW for the truck. Didn't have any problems and there was still lots of tread left. Tires did fine on dry pavement but were a little squirrly in the snow. I wouldn't call them all season.

Sneaky Advertising

I received a mail advertisement Saturday from National Data Research Senior Reply telling me it was my "Legal Right as a United States Taxpayer to receive all the Information available" to me. It's a "New Government Probram For Seniors Over 62". It informs me that "FHA insured HUD regulated "HOME EQUITY CONVERSION PLANS allows you to tap into your Home equity with NO MONTHLY PAYMENTS EVER!" It goes on to tell me all the things I can do with this "TAX FREE MONEY."
Now I know this is the reverse mortgage program but nowhere in the ad does it mention that I, or my estate, will have to repay these "TAX FREE" funds or the expense involved in said funds. So who do I write to complain about what I think is unethical advertisement sent thru the U. S. Mail? The FTC, HUD, FHA?

RE: Whats Your Real Weights? Truck and Trailer. The Real Deal

Total GVWR is 8800 lbs. (we're okay)
Payload capacity has nothing to do with it. It's the total weight of the truck that counts. The way I figure it truck/trailer hooked up puts truck weight of 10,080#, 1,280# above rated GVW of truck. From 2005 and up the 250 is rated at 9,800# (but weighs more, not sure how much though). FWIW I hauled 10,000# fivers for years with a 250 (95 and 05)and never felt like I was overdoing it, but when I went to 14,000# I upgraded the TV.
